The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Arizona has been busy this past week, charging a total of 329 individuals for immigration-related offenses. According to an official press release, these charges are a result of heightened enforcement operations taking place from April 12 to April 18, 2025. Highlights from the week's activities include the arrest of Manuel Ivan Rodriguez-Loya for transporting illegal aliens for profit after a high-speed chase and the sentencing of Emilio Escobar-Escalante, associated with the Latin Kings and MS-13 gangs, for reentry after removal.
Details on the individuals charged reveal a diverse set of infractions, such as 130 cases involving aliens who illegally re-entered the United States, and 179 others charged with illegal entry. Among them was Antonio Terrell Gaither, who was indicted on conspiracy to transport illegal aliens using Telegram and burner phones, as stated in a criminal complaint. Furthermore, Felipe Alonso-Cabada—also known as Oscar Sanchez—was charged with reentering the country after deportation, having a prior for trafficking heroin.
These enforcement actions are said to be part of "Operation Take Back America," a nationwide initiative that aims to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and uphold community safety. Agencies contributing to operations include ICE ERO, ICE HSI, U.S. Border Patrol, and several other federal law enforcement partners. One notable case involved Eduardo Prado Flores, who was charged with failure to register as an alien after living in the U.S. illegally and being arrested for Driving Under the Influence.
