Residents in Brittany Estates and Estados Serenos should brace for an upcoming water outage as the area sees necessary infrastructure upgrades. According to the City of Las Cruces, a scheduled shutdown will affect several streets on April 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to facilitate the sewer extension and water line replacement project.
The streets that will experience the outage include Vista Cuesta from Agave Drive to Camino Real, Camino Real between Bristol Avenue and Broadmoor Drive, and Agave Drive from Spanish Trail to Camino Real. Other nearby areas might also find themselves without water service during these hours. In preparation, the city claims that residents were notified with door hanger notices at least 24 hours before the disruption.
Following the resumption of service, some may encounter discolored water. The city's statement reassured citizens that despite the appearance, the water is considered safe to drink. The discoloration, due to iron, manganese, and calcium deposits, is expected to resolve within a day. To expedite the process, residents are advised to run their cold-water faucets for five minutes if the water remains cloudy after service is restored.
It's a hassle, no doubt, when laundry plans are derailed, and the city has cautioned against washing clothes until water clarity returns to normal. If the water doesn't clear up within 24 hours, which might happen, residents are instructed to contact the Las Cruces Utilities Dispatch at (575) 526-0500/TTY 711 for further guidance. For those seeking additional information on the situation, the city has made itself available at (575) 528-3689/TTY 711.
