The opioid crisis doesn't discriminate, touching lives across all socioeconomic strata and ages within Upper Arlington and beyond. Addressing this ongoing challenge, local authorities are advocating for the responsible disposal of prescription drugs to curb misuse. Upper Arlington's Police Division is spearheading the effort with the upcoming DEA Drug Take Back Day, offering residents a chance to discard expired or unused medication safely.

This initiative is not only a proactive step in combating prescription drug abuse but also a convenient way for the community to contribute to the solution. Set for Saturday, April 26, from 10 am to 2 pm, the event ensures local participation is easy and of a drive-thru nature at Fire Station 72 on Reed Road. To attract participants, authorities have made acceptable a range of items: prescription pills, vaping devices minus batteries, sealed liquid medications, and over-the-counter drugs.

The collection is geared towards household supplies, thus strictly not accepting thermometers, needles, business or clinical medical waste, or ointments. For Upper Arlington residents unable to attend the Drug Take Back event, dropping off unwanted medications is possible at the nearest CVS Pharmacy in Kingsdale. Maximize this opportunity to lessen potential harm. Unused medications lying around are potential triggers for misuse, particularly by teens or unintended users.
