Oregonians impacted by the recent floods and subsequent power outages have a bit of relief coming their way. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service has granted Oregon a waiver, relaxing the typically strict 10-day reporting requirement for SNAP benefit replacement requests. This announcement, shared by the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS), gives those in the affected counties until April 15, to report food losses and ask for their SNAP benefits to be replaced.
The waiver is specifically directed at residents of nine counties, including Clackamas, Coos, Curry, Douglas, Harney, Jackson, Josephine, Lane, and Multnomah, where the damage from the March 16 event has been recognized as particularly severe. However, residents in counties not listed in the waiver still face the standard, 10 day rule for reporting food losses, as reported by the Oregon Department of Human Services.
For those eligible, there are various ways to submit a request. They can call 1-800-699-9075 or 711 for TTY, visit local offices, or mail requests to the ONE Customer Service Center at PO Box 14015, Salem, OR 97309. Email is also an option; requests can be sent to [email protected]. Moreover, claims can be filed online through the ONE portal, as per the Oregon Department of Human Services.
