In Vallejo, a package theft quickly spiraled into a multiple-charge scenario for one local man. According to a social media post from the Vallejo Police Department, a report of a stolen package from the 1300 block of Lemon Street last Friday led to the arrest of a suspect caught with not only the stolen property but also illegal narcotics and burglary tools.
After the theft was reported, Vallejo Police officers did more than take statements. They pulled surveillance footage, leading them to the perpetrator's face and the vehicle's license plate. Seeing the suspect pausing before moving, the suspect grabbed the package and drove off in a Kia Optima. An alert officer later spotted the suspect's vehicle on Sonoma Boulevard, performing a traffic stop in a nearby parking lot, where the suspect, already on probation for burglary, found himself once again on the wrong side of the law.
A subsequent probation search uncovered that the suspect was illegally in possession of suspected cocaine, a lock pick set, and the victim's package valued at approximately $190. Upon being read his Miranda rights, the suspect confessed to the theft. The Vallejo Police Department's effective police work led to his arrest on multiple charges, with the robbery being charged as a felony under Proposition 36 due to his prior convictions.
