A quinceañera celebration on San Antonio's South Side took an unexpected turn this past weekend, leading to a confrontation between guests and security staff, and leaving one person injured by shrapnel from a discharged weapon. The incident occurred at the Villa Coronado Venue on Roosevelt Avenue, just south of Loop 410, as the party was winding down near midnight, Fox San Antonio reports.
According to the San Antonio police, a dispute flared between partygoers and the security personnel leading to physical altercations. During the fray, a security guard reportedly assaulted, discharged their weapon into the ground—this action caused shrapnel to strike a bystander. The injured party was not found at the venue but later presented themselves at Baptist Neighborhood Hospital, a medical facility merely a ten-minute drive from, the site of the incident. Police have arrested one individual for assaulting a security guard, KENS 5 adds.
Authorities were initially unable to confirm whether gunshots were fired as partygoers scattered in the chaos. The 34-year-old man who was injured reported being shot at the quinceañera. However, police later stated that his injuries appeared to be from shrapnel rather than a direct gunshot, according to KENS 5. The San Antonio police investigation is ongoing as they work to clarify the events of the night.
