Authorities in Waller County are on the hunt for a suspect caught in a home security video trying to set a car ablaze. As reported by FOX 26 Houston, the incident occurred on Friday night and unfolded on Dawn Harbor Drive, within the Sunterra subdivision of Katy. The footage captured a suspect shattering a car window before fleeing the scene, only to return with a flaming object and hurling it into the vehicle.
In a video shared by the Waller County Fire Marshal’s Office and covered by Click2Houston, the suspect, dressed in a black hoodie, blue pants, and black sneakers, can be seen breaking the window of the right back seat at 11:17 p.m. on April 3. They are later observed lighting what appears to be a bag or bottle possibly filled with an accelerant, dropping it into the car's back seat, and then, seen driving away in a white midsize vehicle parked next door.
While the suspect's identity remains unknown, Waller County officials are actively seeking any leads. To encourage public assistance, the county is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the individual involved, as stated by FOX 26 Houston.
The condition of the targeted car and the motive behind the attempted arson are unclear. Residents with any information are encouraged to contact Waller County Fire Marshal’s Office, Chief Dean Hensley at 979-826-7785, to help solve the case, as per Click2Houston.
