The Washington County Board of Commissioners has officially declared May 2025 as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. The annual observance recognizes the contributions and history of AANHPI communities.
According to the Washington County website, this year’s theme, “A Legacy of Leadership and Resilience,” highlights the impact of AANHPI leaders who have played key roles in shaping society despite facing challenges. The proclamation acknowledges their achievements in various fields and their role in the nation’s development.
The Board emphasizes the importance of honoring the long history of innovation and leadership within AANHPI communities, as well as their ability to overcome social, economic, and political challenges. The recognition aims to support a sense of identity and continuity across generations. The proclamation also reflects the Board’s goal to provide a strong foundation for future generations, built on the efforts of AANHPI individuals who have contributed to the growth and strength of the broader community.
