Travelers and rural commuters should be aware of delays starting April 14, as resurfacing work previously scheduled for April 10 has been delayed due to weather conditions. Capital Paving and Construction LLC, in coordination with the Missouri Department of Transportation, has set the new start date for the low-volume rural routes project, which will affect several counties across Northwest Missouri, including Chariton and Randolph Counties.
Construction on Chariton County Route W, extending to the intersection of Missouri Route 3 in Randolph County, will result in a one-lane pathway, with flaggers directing traffic, announced MoDOT. It’s important to note that delays should be expected during this period of roadwork.
The rural routes to be resurfaced include Carroll County Routes E, EE, T, UU, NN; Linn County Routes EE, W; Chariton County Route C; and the shared Linn/Chariton County Routes TT, ZZ. The project is scheduled to complete renovations on all 11 routes by the end of October 2025, though the timeline is subject to weather conditions.
Funding for these projects comes from an additional $100 million allocated in the Fiscal Year 2025 budget, signed by the Governor last year. This investment is designed to improve 1,985 lane miles of rural roads at 149 different locations. "This funding will be used to improve conditions on 1,985 lane miles of rural roads at 149 locations," according to MoDOT's announcement. These routes are just a fraction of the entirety of the Governor's Rural Roads Program which focuses on enhancing rural transportation infrastructure.
To monitor the progress of the construction and stay informed about traffic impacts, MoDOT urges the public to refer to the MoDOT Traveler Information Map or read the weekly updates provided in the Planned Roadwork for Northwest Missouri.
