Motorists in Arizona are being advised to prepare for some significant route changes this weekend. The Arizona Department of Transportation has announced that northbound State Route 143 will be closed between Interstate 10 and Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway). This closure is scheduled from 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, to 4 a.m. on Monday, April 7, due to a traffic shift taking place.
Alongside the highway shutdown, a clutch of detours and additional closures will be in effect. Evidently, starting from 10 p.m. Friday, April 4, until 4 a.m. Monday, April 7, the eastbound I-10 ramp to northbound SR 143 and 48th Street—stretching from Broadway Road to I-10—will be closed, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Compounding the restricted road access, the westbound I-10 ramps to northbound SR 143 will follow suit, shutting down at 10 p.m. Saturday, April 5, through to 4 a.m. Monday, April 7.
Moreover, travelers intending to use the northbound SR 143 on-ramp at University Drive will need to find an alternative route as it will also be closed from 8 p.m. Saturday, April 5, until 4 a.m. Monday, April 7. Motorists have been advised to use eastbound US 60 to northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) and then westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) as a detour to access westbound I-10 beyond the closure. Those needing to get to the airport should use the Sky Harbor Boulevard entrance from westbound Loop 202, as reported by the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The Arizona Department of Transportation is asking drivers to follow detours during road closures. Schedules may change due to weather or other issues, so they recommend downloading TheCurve app or checking the project website for the latest updates.
