Houston's Interstate 10 is bracing for a major shutdown this weekend, with CenterPoint Energy taking to task the strengthening of its electric transmission lines; drivers be ready for reroutes and delays. According to Click2Houston, the Katy Freeway's main lanes near West Sam Houston Tollway will be closed from tomorrow to early Monday next week.
The closure, delayed from last weekend, will start at 5 a.m. tomorrow and end at 5 a.m. on Monday next week. East and westbound frontage roads will be available for detours. The operation is being overseen by TxDOT and law enforcement, according to KHOU. CenterPoint will provide additional updates on the construction as needed.
For detours, eastbound travelers on I-10 can take the W. Sam Houston Tollway exit and use the eastbound frontage road to bypass the closure. Westbound drivers can exit at Dairy Ashford and use the westbound frontage road to reconnect with I-10. Drivers can also use Westheimer Road or Memorial Drive as alternatives.
CenterPoint advises drivers to allow extra travel time and follow the signs directing traffic.
