The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas filed 259 new immigration-related criminal cases from March 28 to April 3. The cases include illegal re-entries and human smuggling, focusing on immigration violations across the district, which includes San Antonio, Austin, El Paso, and a large portion of the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Officials have announced new cases in Texas related to illegal immigration and criminal activity. Mexican national Miguel Angel Torres-Segura is charged with conspiracy to transport illegal aliens in a human smuggling operation involving over 900 individuals. Román Lagunas-Nazario, a permanent resident alien, attempted to smuggle a firearm into Mexico for $100, which could result in up to 10 years in prison. Ronald Keith Henderson Jr. is charged with conspiracy to transport aliens, and Victor Alfonso Cruz-Garcia faces charges for illegal reentry after deportation. These cases are part of the 259 new filings under "Operation Take Back America," a Department of Justice initiative aimed at addressing illegal immigration, cartels, and violent crime, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Eduardo Garcia-Gutierrez was arrested for illegal reentry after being deported nine times and convicted of drug-related offenses. In Hudspeth County, Gusman Carillo, a foot guide for illegal crossings, and Kelvin Sauceda-Reyes, who had fraudulent immigration documents, were also apprehended. These arrests are part of ongoing efforts by the U.S. Attorney's Office and federal agencies like Homeland Security Investigations and Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations to address border-related crimes. The individuals are facing charges, and the presumption of innocence applies until proven guilty in court.
