Following a detailed investigation, Weymouth detectives apprehended two suspects believed to be implicated in a recent shoplifting case, as reported on the Weymouth Police Department's social media post. The incident in question occurred on March 19, 2025, at the Stop and Shop supermarket located on 700 Middle Street, where the accused reportedly made away with over $1,500 worth of Health and Beauty Care products.
Authorities were alerted to a shoplifting incident three days after it happened. Security personnel provided police with a description of events, confirming that two women exited the store with the unpaid merchandise before fleeing in a silver minivan. A Brockton Police detective played a key role in the identification of the suspects, who were encountered while panhandling. Both parties, Maria Misclescu and Iasmina Sanatescu, were arrested on March 31, 2025, and now face charges of 'larceny over $1200' and 'conspiracy to commit larceny,' according to the Weymouth Police Department.
The suspects, aged 25 and 20 respectively, shared an address at 125 Willard Street in Providence, RI. After their arrest, both were released on bail and had their arraignment at Quincy District Court last Tuesday. The Weymouth Police Department highlighted the critical role of inter-departmental cooperation in the apprehension of these individuals, acknowledging that the inquiry might yield further charges as it progresses.
The police have urged the public to come forward with any information that could be linked to this case or to other similar thefts. Individuals with relevant details have been encouraged to contact the Weymouth Police Department at (781) 335-1212. The ongoing investigation and the potential for additional charges underscore the broader concerns of theft and its community impact. It is important to remember, as noted in the police statement, that "all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law."
