A 62-year-old Weymouth man now faces charges following a theft at a local Metro PCS store on Bridge Street, as reported in a social media post from the Weymouth Police Department. Franklyn McLaughlin was arrested yesterday when police were alerted to the theft, where it's alleged he took a $100 bill from another customer who was momentarily distracted.
Upon reviewing security footage, the police identified McLaughlin as the suspect, as the footage appeared to show him covertly taking the money placed on the counter. When officers arrived at McLaughlin's residence at 225 Evans Street, they encountered resistance during their attempt to arrest him. McLaughlin became uncooperative and physically resistant, which led to additional charges against him. He now faces allegations of larceny from a person, assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest. After the incident, McLaughlin was released on bail and is expected to appear in court today for arraignment at Quincy District Court, according to the Weymouth Police Department's post.
The police department commended the officers for their swift action and professionalism in a situation that spiraled into a difficult arrest; their diligent efforts in both investigating the theft and the successful capture of the suspect were a testament to their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the Weymouth community.
