In a heartening exhibition of community spirit, White Settlement played host to the first leg of the Special Olympics Texas Law Enforcement Torch Run, setting the stage for a relay that will touch every corner of North Texas and beyond. The event was not short of local solidarity, with fire and police departments uniting alongside elected officials to support this noble cause. The White Settlement Police Department took the initiative to thank all those who played a pivotal role in the day's success through a social media post that highlighted the community's enthusiasm and generosity.
Funds raised from the occasion and the various fundraisers held over the past few months have approached $4,600. Those resources are earmarked for Special Olympics athletes, symbolizing a substantial investment in empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities. Stewarding the event's communications was WEST COMM 911 Dispatcher Adrianne Stewart, while Corporal Laura Gonzalez shouldered the responsibility of logistics.
The cooperative effort extended to an array of city officials, including Mayor Faron Young and numerous City Council members, who were present to cheer on the athletes and share in the camaraderie of the day.
