Shockwaves have been sent through the Whitefish Bay community as a teaching assistant from the Gan Ami Early Childhood Education has been arrested on allegations of possessing child pornography. According to WISN, an official at the Milwaukee Jewish Community Center disclosed that the aide was taken into custody by police. The CEO of the Jewish Community Center, Mark Shapiro, expressed in an interview and in a written letter to families, "This is an extremely disturbing and serious issue that we take very seriously."
The details are sparse, but what’s known is that the teacher's aide was involved in the day-care operations at the center and is currently suspended without pay. As conveyed by Shapiro, "It's been a rough day," underscoring the gravity of events. The Jewish Community Center is handling the situation with severity and clarity, stating that the accused "was not charged with creating any child pornography," according to a letter mentioned by TMJ4. The community has been reassured that none of the images obtained by law enforcement feature any children or staff from the program.
This individual in question, who has not been named, was employed at Gan Ami Early Childhood Education—one of the programs under the auspices of the Jewish Community Center. The early childhood education program communicates the severity of the investigation to the parents, ensuring them that the suspect passed all the background checks and had fulfilled required trainings prior to employment. Moreover, the program officials were adamant in their declaration, emphasizing through communication with families, "the safety, security and well-being of the children in our care is our highest priority," as reported by CBS58.
The Whitefish Bay Police Department is spearheading the investigation, but no formal charges have been handed down as of yet. The silence from law enforcement has left unanswered questions in its wake, with attempts by 12 News to reach out for confirmation resulting in no immediate response.
