In a string of coordinated efforts by law enforcement to tackle the somber issue of drug overdose deaths, Jasmine Bowen, a 28-year-old woman, found herself ensnared by the law's reach far from the scene of the alleged crime. According to a social media post by IMPD News, Bowen was apprehended in Las Vegas, NV, by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) on a fateful traffic stop for a vehicle lacking the common identifier of a license plate.
Last Friday, according to LVMPD's account, a routine patrol in LVMPD's Northeast Area Command made a crucial discovery during a stop on Judson Ave. and Lee Street; it turned out the driver had an extraditable warrant out of Indianapolis, Indiana, such warrants are not light matters and specifically in this case lies the gravity of an overdose death." Las Vegas is not a place to come and hide," LVMPD remarked.
IMPD's Overdose Death Task Force (ODTF) had been investigating the case since March 15, 2024, when officers were dispatched to Snowdrop Way upon the report of an unresponsive male. The individual in question, later identified as 31-year-old Trey Williams, was pronounced deceased by medics at the scene. The Marion County Coroner’s Office determined his demise to be the result of an acute overdose. ODTF's resulting inquiry pointed to Bowen as the suspect who reportedly supplied the lethal substances to Mr. Williams.
The investigation led to enough evidence for a warrant to be issued for Bowen’s arrest last Thursday on charges of dealing drugs that resulted in death and dealing narcotics. He was apprehended the following day by LVMPD. This arrest is the seventh this year by the ODTF related to separate overdose deaths, showcasing the teamwork of agencies like the IMPD Overdose Death Task Force, DEA, IMPD Interdiction Unit, Marion County Coroner’s Office, and the Prosecutor’s Office.
While the arrest and charges against Bowen are severe, it is imperative to note that "An arrest and a charge are merely an accusation, and Bowen should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law," a foundational principle reiterated in IMPD's announcement. Bowen is expected to be extradited to Marion County within the week to face charges in court.
