A fatal industrial accident has occurred at a wine storage facility in Windsor, according to local authorities. The Town of Windsor Police Department reported that a 40-year-old male forklift operator died while performing his duties at 1010 Shiloh Rd yesterday. Per the statement, it seems the equipment he was operating became unstable next to a pallet of wine bottles, resulting in the pallet collapsing on top of him when he dismounted the equipment.
Responding to the incident around 1:00pm, Sonoma County Fire and Windsor Police found the employee had already succumbed to his injuries, unwitnessed, leaving many questions surrounding the precise nature of the accident unanswered. Initial reports suggest that the heavy pallets, estimated to weigh between 2100 and 3000 pounds, gave way, leading to the tragic event. The man's identity has been withheld, pending notification of his family and further investigation by authorities.
The Windsor Police Department turned the investigation over to Cal OSHA and the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Coroner’s Unit. "This is considered a workplace industrial accident, which Cal OSHA will be the lead investigative agency," stated the Windsor Police Department's social media post. Cal OSHA will conduct a full investigation to determine the factors contributing to the accident, including any possible violations of workplace safety regulations.
