A tragic head-on collision in Delaware County has claimed the life of Abdimalik Hirad, a 56-year-old man from Worthington, as NBC4i reports. The incident occurred early this morning, around 6:50 a.m., on State Route 750 in Orange Township, near Highbanks Metro Park.
According to the WBNS coverage, Hirad was traveling eastbound in his 2014 Nissan Altima when a westbound 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Michael Nowakowski, crossed into the opposing lane and struck Hirad's vehicle head-on. The Ohio State Highway Patrol states that Nowakowski, 43, of Columbus, was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Hirad was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The aftermath of the crash continued to impact the morning commute as a school bus was hit by another vehicle that swerved to avoid the fatal collision, according to information from WBNS. Fortunately, no children were on the bus then, and only minor damage was reported.
Investigative efforts are ongoing as the Ohio State Highway Patrol continues examining the accident's circumstances. They received assistance from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Delaware County EMS, and Orange Township Fire and EMS, according to ABC6, which also identified the victim and the other driver involved in this somber incident.
