A tragic incident unfolded in the Oakhaven area as Memphis Police were summoned to a shooting that resulted in the death of a young child. According to Action News 5, officers arrived at the scene on Brompton Road just after 3 p.m. yesterday. The unnamed child was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in a critical state and later succumbed to their injuries. Early reports from the Memphis Police Department indicate the shooting was accidental.
Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, where the child was admitted in critical condition, was the same facility where he was pronounced dead following the events near the Memphis airport. Local Memphis conveyed that Memphis Police responded to the 3600 block of Brompton Road.
The preliminary assessment by authorities once again points to the accidental nature of this shooting, though an investigation into the specifics of the incident is ongoing.
