
An off-road vehicle accident claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl and left another 14-year-old girl with serious injuries in Wellston, Manistee County, as announced by the Michigan State Police. The incident, reported by multiple sources including FOX 2 Detroit, occurred on private property when the vehicle flipped onto its side.
The driver, a 12-year-old from Manistee, was navigating the ORV with her 14-year-old passenger on the afternoon on Sunday. An error in control led to the vehicle rolling off-road at around 1:30 p.m., as per the details provided by UpNorthLive. The authorities have ruled out drugs and alcohol as contributing factors to the accident.
Emergency services responded to the scene near the intersection of Spruce Street and Second Street in the village of Wellston. The teams included Michigan State Police from the Cadillac Post, Norman Township Fire Department, and MMR, according to a statement obtained by 9&10 News. While the younger girl was pronounced dead at the scene, the 14-year-old from Irons was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
