On Sunday morning, a 15-year-old girl was critically injured during a fight when she was run over by a car, as reported by Youngstown Police. The incident happened on Himrod Avenue around 2:20 a.m., where officers responded to a pedestrian accident, coinciding with the dispersal of a large party, FOX8 News detailed. The victim was found in a nearby residence, on a couch, and in distress, subsequent to the altercation that led to her severe leg injuries.
The teen, whose identity remains protected, told police at St. Elizabeth Health Center that another female individual approached the car she was sitting in, sparking the fight. As per the reports by WKBN, it remains unclear if the teen was dragged out of the car amidst the scuffle, and the origin of the car responsible for her injuries has not been established. What is known, however, is that during the struggle, a man known to the victim, who was driving the vehicle, ran over both of her legs.
Police and medical personnel were quick to respond, with the girl being transported to the hospital to address her immediate medical needs. "The victim was listed in critical but stable condition," and her injuries included a broken tibia and a broken fibula, as indicated in a statement obtained by FOX8 News. She was scheduled for surgery following the tragic event.
The Youngstown Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, with a focus on the driver's actions during the altercation. According to a WFMJ report, the victim stated that the driver "floored it" in reverse, which resulted in her sustaining the critical injuries. The department has not released further specifics related to potential charges or arrests associated with the altercation. This story is developing, and updates may follow as new details emerge from the investigation.
