Nineteen dogs, reportedly suffering from neglect and malnourishment, were discovered and rescued from a home in Katy, Texas, that one official referred to as a "dog house of horrors." As per Click2Houston's report, the animals were found in a derelict residence with boarded windows and standing water inside. The dogs, some exhibiting signs of mange, had chewed through the walls of the home situated on Cypress Canyon Drive. Deputies from Harris County Precinct 1 in conjunction with the Houston SPCA and a Precinct 5 deputy were involved in the rescue operation conducted last Thursday.
Investigators revealed that the owners appeared to have abandoned the home on May 10, leaving the dogs in dire conditions. The remains of three other dogs, found in various stages of decay, further highlighted the severity of the situation. The criminal investigation is ongoing, with Harris County officials preparing to submit their findings to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for potential charges. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday to determine whether the owners should retain custody of the surviving animals, as reported by FOX 26 Houston.
Pct. 1 Constable Alan Rosen highlighted the severity of the situation, reportedly describing the scene as "deplorable," according to Click2Houston. The rescued dogs are currently in the care of the Houston SPCA where they are receiving medical treatment and ongoing attention. Officials are urging anyone with information regarding animal abuse to reach out to the Houston SPCA at 713-869-7722, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance in safeguarding the welfare of animals.
