
A tragic incident occurred last night in Egelston Township, Muskegon County, when a vehicle with three occupants plunged into a body of water. The Muskegon County Sheriff's Office reported that a 2-year-old boy died following the crash into Wolf Lake. Responding deputies and state police troopers arrived near the dead end of MacArthur Road and Hubbard Road around 11:15 p.m., according to WOODTV. Despite the efforts of these first responders to save the occupants, the boy was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The vehicle, with two men and the child inside, was traveling west when it left the road and entered Wolf Lake. While a man who could not swim was found standing on the sinking vehicle, both he and the other male occupant, aged 31 and 25, sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening. According to MLive, the two men received treatment at the hospital following the incident.
Law enforcement and the Norton Shores Dive Team tried to rescue all three individuals. Deputies undertook life-saving measures for the young child on-site before transferring him to Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Numerous agencies, including Michigan State Police, Muskegon Township police, and firefighters from Egelston Township, Muskegon Township, Moorland Township, and the City of Muskegon, participated in the response to the tragedy, as detailed by WZZM13.
