A tragic incident unfolded yesterday in Lower Burrell as a 20-year-old man was fatally injured in a motorcycle collision. The young man, identified as William C. Hartman, succumbed to his injuries following a crash involving his motorcycle and a Subaru Legacy. As reported by WPXI, the accident happened at approximately 3:51 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 56 and Wildlife Lodge Road.
The encounter between Hartman's westward journey on his motorcycle and the oncoming sedan proved fatal. The Westmoreland County Coroner's Office stated that Hartman was not wearing a helmet when the Subaru Legacy entered the intersection, leading to the devastating collision. The absence of protective headgear, a detail highlighted by TribLIVE, is a stark reminder of the imperative of motorcycle safety.
The Lower Burrell Police Department is spearheading a comprehensive investigation into the crash. The Pennsylvania State Police have also been involved, with their spokesperson Clifford Greenfield confirming that a crash reconstruction unit attended the scene. However, for more details surrounding the accident, Greenfield deferred to the local police.
