A tragic scene unfolded in McHenry County near Spring Grove this past Sunday when a motorcycle crash claimed the life of a 27-year-old McHenry man. The McHenry County Sheriff's Office has since been investigating the incident, which occurred at the intersection of Johnsburg Road and Miller Road.
According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, the collision happened at 3:03 p.m. involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle. Responding to the crash were units from the Sheriff's Office, Johnsburg Police Department, McHenry County Conservation District, and local fire protection districts. The motorcyclist had been travelling southbound when the crash with a Honda Civic, making a northbound turn, took place.
The investigation thus far points to the motorcycle's speed as a contributing factor. The motorcyclist, who has not been named and was wearing a helmet, was pronounced deceased after being transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital. The Civic's driver, a 17-year-old, received minor injuries and was also hospitalized. A 45-year-old passenger in the Civic, wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, was not injured, and it is noted that the vehicle's airbags deployed.
The inquiry into this fatal event continues as the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and McHenry County Coroner's Office work to piece together the circumstances that led to the McHenry man's death, wearing a helmet.
