Early this morning, a tragic sequence of events unfolded on 2700 North Freeway, leading to a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 31-year-old woman. According to the Houston Police Department reports, the accident occurred roughly at 3:10 a.m. and involved multiple vehicles.
The chain-reaction crash started when a gray Mazda 3, traveling at a high speed, lost control and struck the barrier. During the rollover, the driver was ejected onto the freeway. Compounding the tragedy, a blue Lexus RX350 collided with the Mazda, followed by a white Ford Fusion which, attempting to avoid the Lexus, hit its driver who had exited and was standing on the freeway. The chaos continued as a white Honda Civic also struck the Mazda and stopped in the main lanes, where it was hit from behind by a fifth vehicle, as reported by the Houston Police Department.
Following the impact, the driver of the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics, their identity withheld pending family notification by Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The driver of the Lexus sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Houston police's Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer F. Flynn are continuing the investigation into the precise circumstances of the crash, as stated by the Houston Police Department.
