
A 7-year-old boy died after being hit by an SUV while trying to cross the street in Gastonia, North Carolina. According to Queen City News, the incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. near the intersection of West Hudson Boulevard and South York Road.
Gastonia Police said the child was crossing the street with another child, outside of a crosswalk, when he was struck by a 2016 Jeep Cherokee traveling eastbound. The driver, a 76-year-old woman, has not been charged, WCNC reported.
The boy was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and later transferred to Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, where he died around 10 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation, and police have not filed any charges at this time. Flowers and balloons were placed at the scene in memory of the child. The other child who was with him was not injured, WBTV noted. Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call 704-866-6702.
