Acadiana-area drivers, take note: the DOTD has released an update on current road conditions in the wake of severe weather pounding the region. If you're about to hit the road, you may need to rethink your route, as several areas have been impacted.
For those in St. Martin Parish, there's a bit of good news – sections of La. 347, specifically from La. 328 to south of its junction with La. 678, and the stretch from Poydras to Doyle Melancon are now open, including the Henderson Roundabout. Over in Acadia Parish, La. 95 from just north of Church Point to its junction with La. 95/La. 1108 is also accessible. But exercise caution on La. 1097 from La. 95 to La. 98, where high water signs have been posted; the safety hazards are real.
With the weather still acting up, DOTD urges motorists to heed safety advice during this bout of inclement weather: only drive if absolutely necessary; stay vigilant and free from distractions; and definitely avoid cruise control when it's hard to see or the roads are slick. And remember, headlights are mandatory when your wipers are needed – it's not just common sense, it's the law. The full set of guidelines, including the sensible mantra "Turn around, don’t drown," can be found at the DOTD website.
