The tranquility of Castro Valley Boulevard was disrupted last month when gunfire was exchanged between the occupants of two vehicles. Following a comprehensive investigation, Alameda County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in connection to the April 17 shooting. According to a social media post from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, deputies initially responded to reports of the shooting at approximately 5:00 PM but found neither the vehicles nor the victims upon arrival.
The Sheriff's office states that their Gang Suppression Unit was able to locate the victim, who had left the scene, and piece together the events. The reported victim had fired a CO2-powered BB gun at another vehicle, prompting the driver of that vehicle, known to the victim, to return fire with a firearm. In a dramatic escalation of what began with a mere BB gun confrontation, multiple live rounds ended up being exchanged in broad daylight. The Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as 28-year-old Donovan Wright of Oakland.
Wright was apprehended yesterday, with the Sheriff's Office's Special Response Unit, Crisis Intervention Unit, CORE Unit, the Dublin Police Services K-9 Unit, and the sUAS team all joining in the effort to take him into custody. During a search of Wright's apartment, detectives found not only an illegal assault rifle but also two loaded revolvers and a quantity of cocaine, taking an array of illegal weapons and drugs out of circulation.
Wright now faces serious charges following his arrest and subsequent booking into the Santa Rita Jail.
