The Alameda Police Department (APD) recently arrested two individuals connected to a widespread identity theft ring. On April 22, an alert patrol officer noted a pattern of stolen vehicles being found near Monterey Circle and Mosley Avenue, prompting a deeper investigation by APD detectives into the surrounding circumstances, as reported on the Alameda Police Department's social media page.

The investigation gained momentum when an officer, following up on an unrelated call in the 2000 block of Monterey Circle, discovered a case of false identification. The individual linked to this incident was also associated with one of the stolen vehicles. Pushing forward, on April 24, officers executed a search and arrest warrant at the same residence, leading to the discovery of fraudulent IDs, credit cards, checks, and even narcotics. K9 Primo, a member of the force, signaled the presence of a stolen firearm on the premises.

The arrests, according to the APD social media post, have thus far resulted in the identification of multiple offenses. The department's efforts have shifted towards working with leasing offices and car dealerships to help restore the stolen identities. APD has also provided guidance for those who suspect they may be victims of identity theft, urging individuals to contact the department and file a report with identitytheft.gov. Moreover, they recommend placing a fraud alert or freezing credit through one of the three major credit bureaus – Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
