In broad daylight yesterday, a series of fires caused concern through Fairfield, resulting in swift intervention from police and fire services. According to a Facebook post by the Fairfield Police Department, the fire department requested police assistance at 1:33 p.m. after reports of an individual deliberately starting fires near Airbase Parkway and North Texas Street emerged.
The situation escalated as the suspect was seen setting additional fires in residential backyards in the same area. Fairfield Patrol and Traffic officers located the suspect, identified as 39-year-old April Caringello, on Dover Avenue, caught in igniting yet another fire along the rear fence of a home on the 600 block of Durham Court. In the arresting moment, Officer Reyna extinguished what could have grown into an inferno, using a fire extinguisher.
Further investigation by Officers Reyna and Parodi placed Ms. Caringello at the scene of multiple fire incidents. She was determined to have started five fires along Airbase Parkway and one on Dover Avenue. The fiery trail she left behind has been doused, but not without the due diligence of Fairfield's finest, both on the ground and at the dispatch.
Ms. Caringello's arrest may have ended that potentially destructive episode as she was transported to the County Jail.
