Tragedy struck Osceola County over a dispute that ended in gunfire and death. WESH reported that an argument over a girl between a group of young people escalated into a fatal shooting. Nineteen-year-old Nekko Herrera was pronounced dead at the scene, said the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, after deputies found him riddled with bullets inside a vehicle on Sunday.
Another injured person was airlifted to the hospital for treatment following the incident. The sheriff's office managed to apprehend the suspect, 42-year-old Orvill Osorio-Ortiz, on Tuesday, who is now facing charges including a charge of first-degree premeditated murder and four counts of attempted first-degree murder.
According to ClickOrlando, the chain of events began with text messages between young adults engaging in back-and-forth insults over an argument regarding a girl. This led to a planned meetup to "take care of the beef." However, it resulted in Osorio-Ortiz ambushing the five victims as they drove past the agreed-upon location, opening fire on their vehicle.
Following the capture of the suspect, local authorities collected evidence, including shell casings and text messages, that placed Osorio-Ortiz at the scene during the time of the shooting. One witness positively identified Osorio-Ortiz, armed with a Glock-style handgun, as the perpetrator. "I can't make this stuff up; arguing over a girl ends in murder," Sheriff Marcos Lopez told ClickOrlando, shedding light on the seemingly trivial origin that led to a heinous outcome. Amidst the ongoing investigation, the mother of the deceased, Monique Herrera, was grief-stricken, yet expressed a step toward justice has been made with the arrest.
