It's that time of year again when the heat can be as relentless as a telemarketer, and while we can't block the sun's calls, we can dive into some refreshingly cool water. Both Arizonans and Central Jersey residents are in luck because their respective valleys are awash with opportunities for watery reprieve through a variety of splash pads and community pools.
In Arizona, the situation is, residents have enough splash pads and community pools to plan a different dip for every scorching day of the summer. According to ABC15, there are over 100 of these oases scattered throughout the region. These include Anthem's Community Center, which is a residents-and-guests-only aquatic park, and Big Splash Water Park, with its 200+ gallons of water dumping every four minutes, providing some serious splash. Anthem and many other cities, including Mesa, Chandler, and Scottsdale, offer a mix of pools and interactive spray pads, though it's highly recommended to check schedules before making a splash to avoid any unanticipated closures.
Over in Central Jersey, locals are diving into the summer spirit with a plethora of spray parks and community pools. As reported by MyCentralJersey, these include spots like Carteret's musically themed sprayground and Cottrell Farm Park Splash Pad in Old Bridge, where the apple orchard theme pays homage to the location's past. Many of these recreational areas come free of charge, adding to the inclusive, community vibe of summer fun.
In East Brunswick, Crystal Springs Family Waterpark is flaunting its status as the state's first municipal waterpark with accessible amenities like a lazy river and water slides. Meanwhile, Edison's splash pad is designed in homage to the township's namesake with a 20-foot light structure and iconic film cameras turned into water guns. These spaces, functional from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, offer locals an escape within their community, complete with various water features. Admission details vary, but families in New Jersey can stay cool without breaking the bank, especially with free options such as the thematic Edison Splash Pad.
