The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS), in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, is rolling out its annual 'Click It or Ticket' initiative, geared to encourage seat belt use among motorists and their passengers. This enforcement stretch, which officials hope will help to lessen vehicle-related fatalities, is to begin Monday and will close on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
In a bid to make certain the message is loud and clear, Arizona's officers will be enhancing their presence on the roads, ready to enforce seat belt laws with the intent to firmly educate the public. According to a release on the AZDPS website, the campaign, endorsed by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, aims to not only penalize non-compliance but also to inform Arizonans about the life-saving benefits that come from simply clicking that belt. The initiative aligns with sobering statistics indicating the stark consequences of neglecting to take such a fundamental safety step.
A grim tally has been noted by AZDPS: as of May 12, 2025, out of 101 fatal collisions on Arizona’s roads, 39 individuals lost their lives in the absence of seat belts or appropriate safety restraints. Lieutenant Colonel Daven Byrd, Assistant Director of the AZDPS Highway Patrol Division, noted the profound impact of these avoidable deaths. "We’ve seen too many tragedies that could have been prevented by a seat belt," he said in a statement. "Wearing a seat belt is the easiest decision you can make to stay alive in a crash. Protect yourself and those who ride with you," he urged in a quote provided by the AZDPS news release.
The 'Click It or Ticket' campaign is part of a broader commitment by AZDPS to ensure public safety throughout the state.
