For Arlington foodies and safety-conscious diners, there's now an easier way to monitor their go-to eateries' hygiene standards. The City of Arlington has made detailed health inspection scores available, providing insight into the cleanliness and safety practices of local food establishments. Hungry patrons can simply visit the city's Food Establishments inspection scores webpage or eyeball a posted score in the restaurants.
The health services team conducts yearly inspections with a base score of 100, and deductions are made for any health violations observed. Any establishment scoring above a 70 is currently deemed to be in the clear. Moreover, since November 2023, Arlington has been assigning easy-to-understand letter grades to help businesses showcase their hygiene standards proactively, with an 'A' representing scores between 91 to 100, a 'B' for 81 to 90, a 'C' for 71 to 80, and any score below 70 earning an 'F'.
Food and beverage permit holders in Arlington must display their most recent inspection report or provide a method for customers to request it. With around 1,700 restaurant inspections done biannually and some 2,200 annual checks on other food service establishments, this system serves as a comprehensive barometer of food safety in the region.
