It's summer again in Arlington, and that means the return of the Discover Summer Program at the Arlington Public Library—a hub for community engagement and literary exploration. For those who relish a good book and the satisfaction of accomplishment, the library offers an array of activities, including reading challenges, sound bath meditations, and even pub trivia to spice up the season.
With school out and time on everyone's hands, the library encourages people of all ages to keep track of their reading through the Beanstack app. Through the app, readers can earn badges, connect with other bibliophiles, and find personal satisfaction in hitting new literary benchmarks. Still, the fun doesn't stop at reading; it extends to prizes and rewards that encourage community members to get involved. Readers can start signing up for the challenges and aim for a range of prizes by reading more throughout the summer.
According to the City of Arlington, "Each library location will have a Summer 2025 Prize Book that has a list of all prizes for each age grouping (0 - 12, 13 - 17, and 18+)." This year, like before, participants can earn prize drawing tickets by completing reading milestones within their age groups. For the youth, 20 days of reading rewards them with a free book and extras, 40 days come with a Discover Summer water bottle among additional drawing tickets, and at 60 days, readers are gifted yet another book, a goodie bag, more drawing tickets, and a grand prize drawing entry. Adults, on their part, receive a Discover Summer Fan upon registration, and further reading milestones unlock a range of prizes, including a tote, more coupons, and drawing tickets.
The Discover Summer Program isn't just about solitary reading; it's an opportunity for Arlington's residents to come together—kids, teens, and adults alike—with gatherings that promise to be engaging and interactive, breaking the monotonous silence that often accompanies the vast world enclosed within the pages of a book. To be part of these experiences and for chances to snag some cool summer swag, the library invites everyone to dive into the world of books and take on the challenges presented through the Beanstack app.
