Arlington's landscape shows signs of environmental uptick thanks to the newly established Clean Corridor Program, which seems to be leaving its mark on the city's streets and public spaces. The initiative, led by a small but mighty team dubbed the Clean Team, kicked off in March and has been busy turning the tide against urban blight. The group comprises four individuals tasked with the mission to scour the city's high-traffic areas, making strides in its fight against litter, illegal dumping, and the wear and tear of public infrastructure.
According to the City of Arlington, since hitting the streets in early March, the Clean Team has amassed quite a track record, having collected over 5.7 tons of litter and removed upwards of 2.4 tons of illegally dumped materials. They've also pulled down 75 stray signs and extracted 32 forgotten shopping carts left abandoned on the city's throbbing arteries.
The team's efforts extend beyond the manual cleanup task—they assist other departments like Parks & Recreation, Public Works, and Code Compliance. This cross-collaboration amplifies their impact, paving the way for a cleaner Arlington before and after the city's high-energy social gatherings, from parades to festivals. This focus on cooperative community upkeep signifies a larger goal: a long-term maintenance strategy aiming for a city that not only radiates civic pride but exhibits it through tangible results.
