For those seeking to immerse themselves in cultural experiences without the pricey flight tickets, the Arlington Public Library's Tea Time series offers a pass to a world of flavors, and this time, they've brought the aromatic traditions of the Arab world into the local limelight. At the East Library and Recreation Center last week, attendees were treated to more than just a fresh brew. They got a whiff of the essence of Arab hospitality and generosity, often symbolized by the ritual of sharing tea.
According to the City of Arlignton, the monthly Tea Time event held last Wednesday seamlessly wove together local community with global customs during Arab American Heritage Month, Mark Dellenbaugh, who is responsible for Library Community Programming, spoke about the significance of tea in Arab culture stating, "Tea is really a symbol of hospitality and generosity in the Arab world," and "Tea plays a very significant role in treating the guests as a treasure."
Past the theme of hospitality, Tea Time serves as a monthly fixture, open and free to anyone looking to broaden their cultural horizons. On the fourth Wednesday of the month, it showcases a rich tapestry of cultures through one of the most universal social lubricants: a cup of tea.
