The Metropolitan Police Department released a statement detailing a high-stakes chase involving stolen vehicles, armed juveniles, and a shooting in Northeast D.C. According to their report, three juveniles absconded from a facility in Pennsylvania on Sunday. They were said to have stolen a red 2016 Land Rover SUV and made their way back to the District, where the police had been on alert for their arrival.

Following a shooting and robbery incident reported around 10:49 p.m. on Sunday in the 700 block of 8th Street, NE, MPD officers were swiftly dispatched to the scene. The victim, an adult male, was found with a gunshot wound, sustaining injuries that were not life-threatening, as per MPDC's statement. The suspects were believed to quickly flee in a red SUV, which was later found to be the same vehicle stolen by the juveniles, confirmed by LPR data from the RTCC and Flock LPR cameras.

MPD officers, upon spotting the vehicle in various districts, engaged in a drawn-out pursuit with the suspects. At one point, under the surveillance of the MPD's helicopter Falcon 1, five suspects were seen suddenly jumping out of the SUV, with two re-entering and driving off. One individual was detained thereafter, with an AR-15-style rifle found nearby. A later sighting of the red SUV led to a chase that culminated near Minnesota Avenue and T Street, SE, resulting in two more apprehensions.

Chief Pamela A. Smith credited the swift coordination between the Real Time Crime Center, responding patrol officers, and Falcon 1 for the effective resolution of the incident. She emphasized that the MPD remains dedicated to ensuring violent offenders are held accountable for their actions. In the aftermath, three juveniles were charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Robbery, and other firearm-related offenses. One of the individuals was identified as a DYRS absconder. Efforts are still underway to locate the two remaining suspects involved in the incident.
