An early morning drug raid conducted by Michigan State Police in Genesee County turned fatal when a 37-year-old man armed with a shotgun was shot and killed after refusing to comply with commands to disarm. The incident also resulted in a 47-year-old woman being wounded during the operation, FOX 2 Detroit reported.
Police arrived at the 9000 block of River Grove Road in Montrose Township to execute a search warrant at approximately 5:30 a.m. The Flint Area Narcotics Group, known as FANG, assisted by the MSP Emergency Support Team confronted the man who was subsequently shot, when he failed to drop the weapon as ordered. The woman, injured in the exchange, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, detailed CBS News.
The operation resulted in two other men being arrested, and a juvenile was detained, with none of them sustaining injuries during the confrontation. As per Michigan State Police policy, the trooper involved in the shooting has been placed on leave, according to WLNS. The exact details of the narcotics investigation have not been disclosed yet, as the MSP 2nd District Special Investigation Unit, and the MSP Crime Lab are conducting a full investigation into the incident.
"The MSP 2nd District Special Investigation Unit and MSP Crime Lab have responded to the scene and are conducting a thorough investigation," said a statement released by the Michigan State Police, as stated by CBS News. Once completed, all information gathered will be forwarded to the Michigan Attorney General's office for review. Updates on the case, are expected to be provided via the MSP's official communication channels, reports have indicated.
