A mother and her partner are facing charges after a three-year-old boy was found wandering alone and appearing malnourished outside a home in southeast Atlanta. 30-year-old Lakisha Holmes and 30-year-old Andre Roundtree have been charged with second-degree cruelty to children and reckless conduct. Holmes has been granted a $50,000 bond. Roundtree waived his first court appearance, and it is unclear if he was granted bond, as FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
The child was found late Wednesday night last week by homeowner Roderick Arnold, who reported hearing crying and discovering the child with injuries, including a bleeding foot. The child was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding Hospital, and the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services has been notified.
Holmes said she was at work during the incident and that her brother was supposed to be watching the child. Neighbors reported seeing Holmes searching for her son the next morning.
According to police, Roundtree resisted arrest and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital’s detention center. Holmes told Atlanta News First that she had been looking for her child and expressed concern for his condition.
The Atlanta Police Department is continuing its investigation and asks anyone with information to come forward. The current condition of the child and future court dates for Holmes and Roundtree have not been released.
