
Yesterday morning, a collision on I-20 Westbound near Capital Avenue involved a patrol vehicle that was attending to a prior traffic accident. According to the Atlanta Police Department, the incident occurred around 3:42 a.m. when a 2025 Toyota Camry, operated by a Mr. Racine Joseph, crashed into the back of the parked patrol car while the officer was inside. The officer sustained non-life threatening injuries and was subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment.
Mr. Joseph was suspected to have been driving under the influence at the time of the accident. Officers on the scene carried out a field sobriety test, which they believe Mr. Joseph failed. He was detained and subsequently charged with DUI Less Safe, Following Too Closely, Too Fast For Conditions, Reckless Driving, and violating the Spencer Pass Law, which requires drivers to move over for emergency vehicles. Following the incident, Joseph was taken to Grady for a medical examination, and then transported to Atlanta City Detention Center.
