The man, confirmed to be Juan Mario Martinez-Hernandez, was pronounced dead on site, according to the official report released by the city of Austin.
The driver involved in the incident, Angelo Francisco Pinheiro, initially fled the scene but later contacted authorities, claiming responsibility for the accident. APD officers are to quickly respond and make contact with Pinheiro following his 911 call. During the interaction, Pinheiro provided a statement and underwent a DWI investigation, which eventually led to his arrest on charges of DWI and Collision Involving Death, as per the city's statement.
