Residents and commuters in the Baltimore area should brace for some temporary inconvenience as the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration embarks on overnight ramp closures connected to a guardrail improvement project. According to FOX Baltimore, the ramp from northbound I-695 to westbound MD 122 will be closed for two nights in late May.
The closures are scheduled for Thursday, May 22, and Wednesday, May 28, with operations running from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting. Drivers expecting to use this route will now have to take a detour via eastbound I-70 and loop back at the Park and Ride lot, before heading back on westbound I-70, to turn right onto MD 122 towards Baltimore County, the report detailed.
These closures form a segment of a wider $187,000 guardrail replacement initiative on MD 122, which extends between Rolling Road and Whitehead Road, and kicked off in April. But these nighttime reroutings aren't limited to this single section. A second ramp closure will affect those heading to Security Boulevard from the inner loop of Interstate 695, WBAL-TV reported. This site will also experience closures on the same dates and times. Commuters must use an established detour via the ramp to eastbound Interstate 70 and pivot at the park-and-ride lot to join westbound I-70, for eventual access to Security Boulevard.
