This morning in Elyria, a barroom dispute spilled into the streets and escalated into violence, resulting in one man being shot and another facing serious charges. Cleveland 19 News reported that Elyria police officers arrived at a residence on the 800 block of Clark Street at roughly 2:40 a.m., where they discovered a 35-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds.
Hospitalized at University Hospitals Elyria Medical, the victim, whose name has not been released to preserve his privacy, was said to be stable and had conversed with investigators following the incident. Driving one of the women to the scene of the later shooting, Levi Webb, 26, of Parma, became entangled in the conflict and, while under the influence of alcohol, fired several shots at the victim, as reported by FOX 8 News.
Lantz, officer on duty, made a statement after apprehending Webb and an unnamed woman. "This was a reckless and dangerous situation that had the potential to end in far greater tragedy," said Bill Lantz, speaking on behalf of the Elyria Police Department in an interview with WKYC. He credited the quick response of the officers to the "isolated incident" and highlighted the risks of firearms, alcohol, and poor decision-making.
The confrontation initially began at a local bar where two women quarreled and later agreed to settle their dispute with a physical fight at the Clark Street residence, with Webb playing a crucial role by providing transportation to one of the women. Both Webb and the woman fled the scene in his vehicle but were eventually found by police near Chestnut Ridge Road and Abbe Road. Nearby, police located the firearm they believe to have been used by Webb in the shooting. He is currently charged with felonious assault and using weapons while intoxicated, according to the Elyria Police Department, as described in Webb's car, having found the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
Webb is now behind bars at Lorain County Jail awaiting a court date, with the possibility of facing additional charges as the investigation presses forward. The Elyria Police encourage anyone with information related to the shooting to contact Detective Homoki.
