A Bartow County paramedic has been charged with unlawful eavesdropping or surveillance after being accused of hiding a camera in a bathroom at his workplace. James Burton Crawford, 50, faces 40 counts stemming from incidents that reportedly occurred between early June and late August of 2023.
The initial discovery was made by a fellow paramedic on October 9, 2023, prompting the subsequent police investigation. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the informant found a hidden camera disguised as a clock with an SD card slot in a restroom at the Metro Atlanta Ambulance Service's satellite office. A search through the SD card contents allegedly revealed footage of Crawford placing and adjusting the camera within the restroom. Despite the alarming nature of the discovery, Crawford has since been released on bond from Bartow County Jail.
The Adairsville Police Department embarked on an investigation after being alerted by an employee, who noticed something off about a clock in the restroom of the Metro Atlanta Ambulance Service on Legacy Way. The police document obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta confirms the discovery of the camera and identified 14 victims caught unknowingly on the footage.
Upon investigating the situation, the company's head of IT was instructed to review the SD card, through which content depicting Crawford's interaction with the camera was discovered, Coosa Valley News reports. The video content allegedly displayed Crawford, in the act of positioning the camera in various spots across the restroom. After gaining release on a $50,000 bond, as Coosa Valley News reported, Crawford's legal proceedings remain pending.
