
In a tragic turn of events, a sophomore student at Bay High School, Dylan Veselic, has died following injuries sustained during a lacrosse game against Olmsted Falls High School. As reported by Cleveland19, the young athlete was transported to a hospital on Tuesday night and then airlifted to a downtown hospital for emergency surgery. However, he tragically succumbed to his injuries two days later.
According to FOX8, the school district communicated the somber news to families early this morning following an update from the Veselic family, in the wake of Veselic's surgery and his critical condition on yesterday, the community quickly rallied, organizing a "Sticks Out" tribute led by a Bay Village hockey mom, Lysa Balmer Kenney, inviting locals to place hockey and lacrosse sticks on their porches in a show of solidarity with the grieving family.
The outpouring of community support has continued with a meal train initiative raising over $30,000 for the Veselic family. Reflecting the deep-felt impact of Dylan's passing on his community, a prayer service has been scheduled for 7 p.m. today at St. Raphael Church in Bay Village, as noted in a voicemail by Superintendent Prebles and reported by News 5 Cleveland.
