The Tipsy Pig, a popular gastropub known for its bacon-laden mac and cheese and vibrant backyard patio, is set to pour its last pint in San Francisco's Marina district after a 16-year stint. In a heartfelt social media post shared on Instagram, the establishment bid its patrons a tender goodbye and hinted at plans for its current location at 2231 Chestnut Street. "Stay tuned for updates on our future endeavors at 2231 Chestnut," the Tipsy Pig's post read, as the team expressed gratitude towards the community that had supported them over the years. The Tipsy Pig will officially close its doors tomorrow.

With a reputation for its "raucous" atmosphere and quality pub fare that is better than it has to be given the inebriation factor around the bar, as noted by former Chronicle restaurant critic Michael Bauer, the Tipsy Pig served as a central hub for celebrations and gatherings since its inception in 2009 by a trio of industry veterans, including Nate Valentine, Stryker Scales, and executive chef Sam Josi. As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, Valentine plans to quickly transform the space into something new later this year, markedly turning the page to a new chapter for the well-trodden spot on Chestnut Street.

Valentine, a notable figure in the San Francisco bar scene, also heads several other local establishments, such as Peacekeeper, Harper and Rye, April Jean, and music venue August Hall, in addition to the salad chain Blue Barn. Continuing his entrepreneurial drive, he has another project lined up with the opening of Bar Darling. This new venture, set to open on June 3, will take over the former Squat & Gobble space at 2263 Chestnut St.

Bar Darling is shaping up to potentially become another neighborhood favorite, with Valentine teaming up once again with the forces behind Peacekeeper and Harper & Rye. Also joining the collaboration is the chef from Mamanoko, a sushi joint. Since the owners already have a track record with popular restaurants including Mamacita, Padrecito, and Umami, expectations are set to run high for the newcomer. "We are really proud of the Tipsy Pig and are grateful for the support we’ve received," the Tipsy Pig's Instagram post shared, inviting patrons for one last round to bid farewell before turning the page to Bar Darling's fresh start.
