Boulder is stepping up its game when it comes to secure bike parking. With summer just around the corner, the city is rolling out new bike racks and a bike valet service to ensure cyclists can safely stash their ride while hitting up local events. This initiative is part of a broader push to make Boulder a haven for sustainable transportation, as stated by the City of Boulder.

The city's investment includes swapping out 350 outdated bike racks in bustling commercial areas, intending to genuinely make biking around downtown and University Hill less of a hassle. Alongside physical upgrades, there's also a digital lift with the introduction of the Bike Drop app. It aims to quickly and seamlessly allow visitors to check in their bikes. These developments were made public ahead of major events like the Boulder County Farmers Market and the BOLDERBoulder, as Boulder wants to ensure that residents and visitors alike will have peace of mind while enjoying the upcoming seasonal activities.

To further ease concerns about bike theft and encourage cycling as a primary mode of transport, Boulder County's Bike-n-Ride Program is providing access to a secure storage shelter at the 14th & Walnut parking garage. This facility has stepped up its game, too, with more frequent cleaning and maintenance courtesy of a city and county partnership, as was revealed in the recent public announcements.

The Bike-n-Ride shelter is just one aspect of Boulder's commitment to micromobility. Other aspects include incentives like free EcoPasses for downtown and University Hill employees, and user-friendly parking solutions via Metropolis for those who still opt to drive. The city hopes that providing these varied options will not only make life easier but also nudge people to more often choose sustainable transport modes. "These improvements reflect Boulder’s commitment to sustainable transportation and community-driven safety," according to Chief Steve Redfearn, as obtained by the City of Boulder.

Local cyclists and visitors can also take advantage of tech solutions such as the Bike Index, a national bicycle recovery database, which Boulder recommends. And for drivers, there's a bonus: Boulder's BoulderPark garages won’t cost a dime on weekends and city holidays, with an appealing $3 flat rate during weekday evenings. Clearly, Boulder is making a concerted effort to accommodate everybody's travel preferences, while also staying green.
